About us

A publishing house that keeps the way clear

We help independent authors shape, produce and publish books through ghostwriting, editing, design, print, digital, audio, distribution and marketing. We bring the publishing knowledge, keep the lamp lit and explain the road ahead. You make the decisions, and the book stays yours.

Our story

How Winfrey Publishing began

Our story began in Boston in 2011, when a former trade editor grew tired of seeing strong manuscripts wait in queues or disappear without a useful answer. Winfrey Publishing was built as a full-service self-publishing house: the patience of an old reading room, backed by the tools needed for modern print and digital retail.

Since then, we have published 1,480 titles across thirteen studios covering ghostwriting, editing, cover design, formatting, narration, publishing and marketing. That publishing experience, years in the making, guides our work today. We read first, speak plainly and show authors the road ahead. They choose the direction and keep every right, file and royalty.

Why authors choose us

Why authors choose us

Some authors need one careful edit. Others need a team from first draft to distribution. We make room for both. You choose the services, approve the work and keep control of the book. We bring the editorial judgement and production support that make those choices easier.

  1. 01 Experienced book people Every writer on our roster of 42 has published under their own name & worked on books for a decade. Same standard applies on editing, design & production.
  2. 02 Guidance without taking over We explain the route, point out the risks and give you a clear recommendation. You choose the title, cover, edits, price & release plan. You decide where the book goes.
  3. 03 A scope you can read Fees, deliverables, revision rounds and exclusions are written down before the project begins. If the plan changes, we discuss the change before the invoice does.
  4. 04 Rights and privacy protected Your copyright, files and royalties stay with you. We sign a mutual NDA when required, and we never identify an author as a client without written permission.
Our company mission: publishing with a steady hand

Four principles behind every book we support

Clear work before payment

If a deliverable cannot be described clearly, it does not belong in the quote. Word counts, formats, revision rounds, deadlines and exclusions are agreed before you pay.

The author stays in command

We advise, edit, design and distribute. We do not acquire your book or make final creative decisions on your behalf. The work remains yours at every stage.

Problems are raised early

Proofs can come back wrong and schedules can move. When something changes, we tell you, explain the effect and give you the next practical option.

Evidence instead of promises

We report what was completed and what comes next. We do not promise sales, reviews or media coverage. Author success stories can show what is possible, but they are never guarantees for another book.

The team

Meet our editors and writers before work begins

You should know who is touching your manuscript. Before work begins, we introduce the people responsible for the writing, editing, design, production and coordination, then explain where each decision sits.

Elena Marsh

Senior Fiction Editor

Fifteen years in trade fiction editing. She reads for structure first. If a chapter is slowing the book down, she will tell you and show you where.

Tobias Reiner

Nonfiction Editor

Specialises in turning expertise into books people can follow. He has a soft spot for difficult theses that deserve a wider audience.

Walter Stone

Art Director

Leads cover and illustration direction. She often finds that a "design problem" began earlier, with category, audience or positioning.

Callum Ives

Typesetter

Sets poetry, academic apparatus and difficult page systems. His first question is often about the longest line, footnote or table.

Charles Macke

Marketing Coordinator

Plans launch activity and reports what was delivered. She will not forecast sales, even when asked nicely.

Priya Anand

Production Manager

Manages schedules, printers and colour proofs. Illustrated books receive three proof rounds because she would rather catch a problem than explain one later.
