About large image scanning
Yes, when 600 DPI scanning suits the original and its intended reproduction size. We do not use one DPI figure for every job, because the useful requirement depends on physical size, pixel dimensions, detail and how large the image will eventually be printed or displayed.
Anything that does not fit safely or accurately on standard equipment can fall into oversized document scanning. That includes maps, posters, plans, fold-outs, mounted pieces and large artwork. Send the dimensions and condition notes and we can confirm the capture route before you commit.
Usually, yes, but condition comes first. Some folds can be supported or relaxed safely, while brittle creases should not be forced flat. We agree the handling method before capture and will recommend a safer route if the original should not be pressed or repeatedly moved.
No. High resolution art scanning records the original as faithfully as possible, including existing fading, marks or damage. Retouching and restoration are separate image-editing services so you can distinguish the archival record from any later cosmetic changes.
The master is usually supplied as an uncompressed or losslessly compressed file such as TIFF, with additional working copies prepared for print or screen as agreed. The exact formats, colour space and naming convention are listed in the scope before scanning begins.
For most large format scanning services, the physical original has to reach the capture equipment. Shipping, insurance, intake condition and return arrangements are agreed before anything moves. For irreplaceable or unusually fragile material, we discuss the safest handling route first.
